Day 47 - Blackpool Sands to Dartmouth - 5 miles

The weather forecast earlier in the week had been for pretty bad weather on the Saturday, but it had improved as Saturday had got nearer. We had planned a shorter day in case it was bad anyway, and we'd also decided that finishing in Dartmouth for this week's walking attempt would be a good idea. We had both had enough of the strenuous walking of this trip which had lots of cliff ups and downs. The weather wasn't too bad... certainly not as bad as it HAD been forecast earlier in the week. As we were leaving the car at Blackpool Sands for today's walk we decided to go to our by now fairly regular breakfast spot... the cafe on the beach. Day 31 - Helford Passage to Falmouth docks - 9 Miles

I woke up to the sound of drizzly rain on the tent at about 5am! Only the tiniest of almost inaudible spots, but drizzle nonetheless and everyone I had spoken to the day before had said that the weather was supposed to be as good if not better today than it had been yesterday. I was really hoping this was to be the case as I had only planned to walk to Falmouth today and thought I would have time to stop off on a naturist beach I had read about called Arthur's Beach on the final approaches to Falmouth. Sigh.. it seems perhaps that my sunbathing plans are not to be this year!! I went back to sleep and snoozed on and off until my phone alarm went off at 7.30am.. a normal workday.. I'd forgotten to switch it off! No matter I was awake enough to get up anyway. I poked my head outside the tent and it was dull and overcast with low misty grey clouds... sigh.. certainly looked like it was in for the day!! Day 17 - Porthcothan to Newquay - 11 Miles

An earlier than normal start for this trip, despite the lengthy slushy trudge to the single shower at the end of the farmhouse. Amazingly, no one else seemed to be up so I didn't have to wait for the dubious pleasure! I used 2 x 20p coins in the shower and trudged back to the tent to pack the soaking thing away! It had rained repeatedly during the night... what a week to pick to come away walking and camping! after such a generally nice summer too! I'd packed away and set off for the day at 8.45am. I passed the old man farmer on my way by the farmhouse - I'd obviously seen his son the night before when arriving. I had been going to retrace my steps of last night to return to the coast path, but he told me to carry on down the track to the end and turn left to emerge at a small bay. The track bent almost back on itself and so I cut down the field and climbed a fence to get onto the coast path again. It seemed that had I done what the farmer had said then it would have been...
